Allan Colbern and Karthick Ramakrishnan received the 2021 Best Book Award on Migration and Citizenship by the American Political Science Association.

The APSA Migration and Citizenship section also selected Lauren Duquette-Rury’s Exit and Voice: The Paradox of Cross-Border Politics in Mexico as a co-winner of its book award, among the dozens of books nominated for consideration.

about the project

Even though citizenship rights have expanded in meaningful ways, much of the standard thinking still views citizenship as one-dimensional, tied exclusively to legal status that is conferred at the national level.

This project provides a framework to understand the expansion of citizenship rights along five key dimensions, as well as a roadmap to track, measure, and expand these rights at both the federal and state level.
